We invite you to help us implement the following for our children …

 

Book Fair(s): Volunteers help set-up, cashier, assist buyers and take down the book fair in the library.

Brown Bag Helper: This is great for volunteers who want to help but cannot spend much time on campus. Occasionally small projects such as cutting, stapling, assembling, are sent home with a student by the teacher for the parent to complete at home and return.

Classroom Readers: Volunteers read to their child's classroom for approximately a half hour once or twice a semester. Check with HRC for dates and times.

Colonial Day: Volunteers help the 5th graders travel back to Colonial Times through various stations that teach students about the colonists, their environment and significant events in our history.  Help prepare and/or work this 1 day event in the Fall semester.

Fall Festival: Volunteers help coordinate and set-up a day of fun for the whole family. There will be different committees for each event or area.

Fitness Day: Volunteers assist the P.E. teachers in setting up, judging events, lining up students for events and other activities to ensure this event runs smoothly.  This will occur in the spring.

Fifth Grade Party: Volunteers plan a special event for the 5th graders to celebrate the end of their elementary school days before moving on to middle school.

Grade Level Liaison:  Liaison between PTO Board, Homeroom Coordinators and staff regarding various school activities and grade level programs such as History Days, Holiday parties, Fitness Days, Science Resource Center trips, etc.

Grade Level Programs/Activities: Volunteers help with any special grade level programs and/or activities, such as a play or performance during an evening PTO meeting.

Hearing and Vision Screening: Volunteers assist the school nurse with checking the hearing and vision of the students. District training is required and provided free of charge.

Homeroom Coordinator: Coordinates volunteers and sets up schedules for their respective homerooms to help with various activities such as Fitness Day, Holiday parties, parent readers, special programs, etc.

Homeroom Helper: Assist Homeroom Coordinator by volunteering in or for the class at various activities, bringing goods for parties and assisting as needed throughout the year.

Hospitality: Volunteers help prepare staff treats and the occasional on-campus staff luncheons. 

Junior Achievement: Volunteers conduct 5–7, 30 minute sessions on an economics program geared to the different grade levels. Training is provided.

Library Aides: Volunteers assist in the library with shelving books, checking out books to students, assigning Birthday books to students, and other duties as needed by the media specialist.

Label Day (Box Tops for Education, Campbell Soup, Tyson Project A+, and Nestle Pure Life): Volunteers help with the monthly collection and counting labels.

Memory Book: Volunteers help create and assemble a special book of the 5th graders’ elementary school years.

Nature Trails: Volunteers assist 3rd and 5th graders at various stations at the Nature Trails located behind Millsap Elementary.  Training is provided.  Actual event lasts most of a school day.  (Subject to availability)

Random Acts of Kindness: Volunteers assist staff in preparing symbols, certificates, and other duties to emphasize acts of kindness and consideration of others.

Red Ribbon Week: Volunteers assist in decorating the school, handing out items to students and other activities to help promote the district’s Drug Awareness week.

Restaurant Night (Secondary Fundraising): Volunteers help coordinate ongoing events such as Restaurant Night, grocery store cards, etc.

Roman Day: Volunteers help turn the 3rd grade area into Ancient Rome by assisting at various stations that teach students about Ancient Romans and their world.  Help prepare and/or work this 1 day event in the Spring semester.

Texas Day:  Volunteers help 4th graders travel thru Texas by providing a rotation through different stations in the classrooms.   Help prepare and/or work this 1 day event in the Spring semester.
 
School Supplies:  Volunteers process orders for supplies and help distribute the supplies when they are delivered to the school.

Science Resource Center Demos:  Volunteers bring in animals and exhibits to share with the classes.  Training is provided. Demos are conducted year round - check with your HRC.

Spirit Shop: Volunteers help sell school supplies and spirit items during the lunch/recess times.  One Friday each month.

Textbooks: Volunteers assist in distributing textbooks at the beginning of the year and collecting them at the end of the year. Also assist in processing new textbooks as needed.

Workroom Helpers:  Volunteers assist the workroom staff with assembling the school newsletters, completing project requests from teachers and other activities as needed.

Yearbook: Volunteers take and collect photos, assemble pages and work to create a yearbook.
